Use Examples
Depuis (since) to speak about a durable and unfinished action
  • Il est en France depuis le mois de mars.
    =A durable and unfinished action
    :He's been in France since March and now he still lives in France.
  • J'attends depuis dix heures
    =Duration
    .= I'm been waiting since 10 am.
Pendant (for, throughout, during) to speak about a durable and finished action:
  • J'ai attendu pendant des heures pour visiter la Tour Eiffel.
    = I waited for visit the Eiffel Tower during several hours.
    A durable and finished action:= I waited for visit the Eiffel Tower during several hours but now, I'm no more waiting.
  • Il a été malade pendant tout le trajet.
    = He was sick throughout the journey.
    A durable and finished action: How long was he sick?: The lengthy of the journey.
    Is the journey going on? No, it isn't.
